If you look up crazy in the dictionary (er, just Google it), a lot of my friends insist that definition should include people like myself who (on purpose) opt for a late summer getaway in the heat (as high as 113 degrees) of Scottsdale, Arizona. But my search of high luxury and spectacular seasonal deals for soul expanding, relaxing and rejuvenating summer getaway brought me to the Camelback Inn, one of Arizona's historical treasures (photos in the lobby prove that Jimmy Stewart was a regular in the 1940s).
Opened in 1936, this resplendent Marriott property is serenely nestled near the base of (you guessed it) Camelback Mountain, which rises majestically and dominates your sight lines from virtually anywhere -- the spa pool, tennis courts, outdoor restaurants -- on the immaculately landscaped grounds.
The good news (as far as I'm concerned, anyway) is twofold; the toasty temperatures scare away enough people so that one feels as if they have the whole place to themselves (great for grabbing last-minute spa treatments and the best lounge chairs at the pool), while also prompting Camelback to offer guests a vast array of incredible discounts and resort credits.
Feeling restless (and brave) in these dog days of late summer? Discounted rates continue through Labor Day. -- Mitch Rustad
