UDPATE 2: OK, Tracy Morgan has really changed his tune, even coming out for gay marriage! THIS is what an apology sounds like...
UPDATED: And Tina speaks! After calling Tracy Morgan's rant "disturbing" Tina Fey added in a statement, "“I hope for his sake that Tracy’s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian coworkers at 30 Rock, without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket."
Our original post is below...
Say what, Tracy?
To paraphrase you here, you'd kill your son if he acts gay, is that what you said? That stunner is only one of Tracy Morgan's shocking and unbelievable -- can you imagine LGBT advocate and 30 Rock creator Tina Fey or co-star Alec Baldwin's feelings about now? -- statements as part of his stand-up 'comedy' routine, reports Kevin Rogers, who attended Morgan's June 3 show in Nashville.
According to Rogers, Morgan's anti-gay tirade covered everything from kids learning to be gay from the media, God not being responsible for gay people because he doesn't make mistakes, and Morgan threatening to pull a knife on his son if he ever talked in a high-pitched voice. This is stand up comedy??
Of course, it didn't take long for Morgan's remarks to spread like wildfire, trend on Twitter and get everyone from GLAAD, HRC and virtually the world at large to demand an apology, pronto.
But as Rogers said, the damage is already done. "The sad thing is that none of this rant was a joke," Rogers writes on Facebook. "His entire demeanor changed during that portion of the night. He was truly filled with some hate towards us."
Sorry, Tracy, but you just can't walk this one back. You said it, you clearly meant it, and it's heartbreaking stuff.
As the shock settles in, take our poll and let's open it up to your comments.
Are you shocked by Morgan's anti-gay rant? Did Morgan's apology go far enough? What should Tina Fey's response be? Will you watch 30 Rock next season?
