What exactly is holistic nutrition?
Holistic nutrition is about the body being able to heal itself through nutrition, so it’s whole. It’s giving the body nutrients and foods that will help the body to repair.
We’ve heard a lot about the mind body connection and how your thoughts can affect your health. How can food do the same?
The body has to be fed foods that have the ability break down and provide minerals and nutrients, absorb those minerals and nutrients and eliminate the waste. It’s the same with the mind, we need nutrients for the mind, or positive thoughts and we want to release the other thoughts.
Can you give us a few examples of how food actually heals the body?
Every vegetable has a different healing property. Parsley helps to keep the urinary tract clean, the bladder and prostate clean. Celery eats up cysty matter and help to break down fats. Beets and dandelion greens help clean the liver out. Carrots are important for the liver as well as the immune system. Every vegetable or plant has a different healing property behind it. In my world, I talk about getting people on a huge amount of veggies.
You must be a big fan of juicing.
I am! I’m the juice queen. The simplest juice I give people is just apple-celery juice, which stimulates the gall bladder and helps break down fats and clear things out. The next complicated juice would be to add parsley and cucumber and something else dark green. But you still need more. This will help you have healthy cells and clean out but you still need some to chew, and some cooked.
In an ideal day we want to get in enough protein in our body to get the building blocks, enough veggies in to build healthy cells and get antioxidants from fruits such as pomegranite or goji. We need good fats, without them out brains don’t function and our hormones go off. If your body is getting fed those nutrients, you’re going to come alive, I mean really alive.
Our best bet for health and longevity is to get it great food to feed our bodies and great thoughts in to feed our minds and souls and to keep our elimination channels working. Make sure we’re sweating, and have good bowel movements. We want to make sure we’re breathing properly, most people don’t know how to do that.
So you’re not just talking about eating your veggies every day. Sounds like there’s a whole concert of things going on.
I love that! Holistic health really is a concert of all of these different aspects. It’s really allowing the body to heal in it’s own natural way. Water therapy, sun, air, breath, massage, adjustments, food and herbs, all of those things used to trigger the natural healing process within the body.
